Example MRI scans (axial, sagittal, coronal views) from the mice with alpha-synuclein PFFs injected into the AON (16 weeks post-injection). The images from PBS-injected control mice are shown on the left, while the images from PFF-injected mice are shown on the right. The arrows identify regions of high signal, representing atrophic cortex. 

The bottom panel shows the cortical thickness streamlines superimposed on the coronal images. Note that we exclude the high CSF signal and only measure thickness in the cortex.

This figure shows severe atrophy in the ipsilateral piriform cortex and insula.  The hyperintense signal from the CSF is not seen in the PBS control mice or in the contralateral hemisphere.

Note the thin streamlines in the ipsilateral piriform cortex in the bottom right image.
