Representative image illustrating the amyloid- β plaque detection and size quantification in a 9 month-old mouse. The bounding boxes are colored by the size, from blue to red for smallest to largest. Scale bar 50µm.
Histogram of plaques as a function of their equivalent radius in the different groups. Plaque equivalent radius = √(area/π).
To gain further insight into the spatiotemporal evolution of the amyloid-β plaque microenvironment, we quantified the environment as a function of plaque size, as a proxy for plaque age. The image on the top shows the detection of plaques, with the bounding box colored by plaque size. The histogram of plaque size shows the number of plaques increasing during the disease progression.
